Frisian Flag exercise Leeuwarden AFB, Leeuwarden

Allied Air Forces have gathered in Leeuwarden to take part in the exercise Frisian Flag. Over a two-week period, participants from different nations , alongside NATO Airborne Warning  aircraft, will take part in this live-fly air combat training event. Many nations were present, but the presence of some Canadian F/A-18 Hornets triggered my interest.

A ideal moment for us spotters to go and see these aircraft in action. Despite the predicted harsh weather. Besides the aircraft is was also nice to see and talk to so many spotters after the Covid period.

And I really do not know why, but I always seem to attract the interest of a local reporter. This time a reporter from the AD interviewed me and 2 other spotters. Article can be read here. In 2012 I even went live on Omroep Friesland (link)

A nice but very cold and cloudy 2 day visit to this exercise. Luckily the sun broke through the clouds during the recovery of the afternoon mission, on the second day.
